TSMC will start mass production of 5-nanometer chips by 2021
- AThe Taiwanese TSMC, the largest player in the chip maker market, recently shared its plans for the coming years. The company's main goal is to launch branded 5-nanometer chips into mass production.
Right now, in the company's laboratories, test production of N5 + chips is being carried out, which will get improved characteristics: a 15% increase in performance and an almost twofold decrease in chip size due to a more dense arrangement of transistors.
The development of N5 + processors is still only a promising direction, but for now for a smartphone manufacturer from a Taiwanese company, an advanced N7 + chip is stored, which is less than its predecessor by 20 percent and has reduced power consumption.
