Xiaomi was caught artificially reducing the performance of gadgets in Netflix and Chrome
- AQuite an interesting experiment was conducted by the editorial board of Android Police. Journalists tested the behavior of the processor of Xiaomi 12X and 12 Pro smartphones when using different applications and found that the processor power depends on the type of applications.
For the experiment were created modified versions of the benchmark Geekbench, which were successfully "masked" as Netflix, Chrome and other applications. As a result, each of these applications measured the performance of the system. It turned out that if the system detects an application as an original benchmark or a popular game, it "turns on" full CPU power. If the app is detected as Netflix, Chrome or an unknown app, it "slows down" the processor's processing power. And if in multi-core mode the difference is not so noticeable, in single-core mode the difference changes quite significantly.
So, the original Geekbench in single-core mode in the 12 Pro gives 1201 points, and disguised as Netflix scores only 733 points.
By the way, a few weeks ago, similar manipulations with the processing power of processors were revealed at Samsung.
