Qualcomm unveiled the second generation of fingerprint scanners

-
U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm this week introduced a new generation fingerprint sensor. The fast and thin sensor can now also be used in OLED-type screens.
The 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2, according to the developer, due to an almost 80 percent increase in usable area, can process 70 percent more information than first-generation devices. And the increased volume of data processed by the sensor has no negative impact on the speed of its operation, the sensor has a 50-percent increase in performance.

Most importantly, the sensor has become even thinner, allowing it to be fitted to the flexible screens of foldable smartphones. The 0.2-millimeter device, in contrast to the capacitive types, makes it possible to recognize even a wet fingerprint.
The first device with a new type of fingerprint sensor was the recently introduced Galaxy S21.
