Counterpoint Research has reported on the progress of mobile cameras over two decades

-
A curious document surfaced online last week. Counterpoint Research shared their report on the top trends in mobile cameras from 2000 to 2020.
One of the major trends, of course, was the steady increase in camera resolution. Analysts estimate that the average resolution has risen by a factor of a thousand, to 108 megapixels. Over the past year, more than 34 percent of mobile devices had sensors ranging from 32 to 108 megapixels.

Sensors themselves have also changed, with increased pixel size sensors becoming more popular. The advantage of using this type is a clearer picture without noise.

And, of course, one of the main trends in the world of smartphone cameras was their number. As of last year, almost 30 percent of smartphones had at least four cameras, and, in all likelihood, this situation will not change in the coming years.
